The traditional market takes place, as every year, on Piazza Walther – in 2025 from 27 November to 6 January. In addition to classics such as mulled wine, Zelten fruitcake and roasted almonds, there’s a dedicated children’s program with carousel, craft stations and a Christmas train. The market is open on holidays too: Christmas Eve until 2 p.m., New Year’s Eve until 6 p.m., New Year’s Day from 12 p.m.

Winter events & New Year’s Eve highlights

On 31 December, the Boclassic takes place – Europe’s oldest New Year’s Eve road race, where elite athletes and fun runners compete through the old town. To ring in the New Year, Bolzano deliberately forgoes fireworks and instead focuses on live concerts, music programs and atmospheric light shows. If you prefer a culinary celebration, the center offers numerous winter bars with regional aperitifs, ice wine specials and DJ sets late into the night.

From Bolzano to the slopes – winter Dolomite excursions

Even if the city rarely sees snow, the nearest ski areas are close by. Obereggen is just about 45 minutes away and part of the Dolomiti Superski network. Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm) is reachable in just under an hour by train and shuttle – perfect for snowshoeing, cross-country or classic piste action. For a more ambitious option, start a multi-day ski safari from Bolzano – via Val Gardena to Alta Badia, including luggage transport, Dolomite vistas and varied descents. A true highlight for dedicated winter sports fans.

Bolzano is also directly connected by Nightjet in winter 2025/26 – including from Hamburg, Vienna and Munich. Early-morning arrival lets you jump straight into your winter plans.
