Bolzano and environs

Bolzano and environs has two different sides. In the city, Walther Square, the Lauben arcades and the fruit market are close together. Above it, the Ritten plateau offers walking paths, earth pyramids and Wolfsgruben Lake. For a wellness vacation, it therefore matters exactly where the hotel is located.

Both hotels we feature here are on the Ritten plateau, not in Bolzano's old town. The Weihrerhof is on Wolfsgruben Lake, the Lichtenstern on the Freud Promenade. From there, you can plan a visit to Bolzano. Check for your hotel how to get from the property to the nearest stop.

From Bolzano up to the Ritten

Between the arcades and the fruit market

Walther Square, the Lauben arcades and the fruit market are destinations for a walk through Bolzano's old town. At the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, you can see Ötzi the Iceman.

If you want to visit Bolzano without a car, travel down from the Ritten by cable car via Oberbozen. The way from the hotel to the cable car differs from property to property.

Promenade, earth pyramids and lake

The Freud Promenade runs between Oberbozen and Klobenstein. Earth pyramids can be seen in several places on the Ritten, including near Oberbozen and Lengmoos. At Wolfsgruben Lake, you can walk along the shore. Check separately whether the public bathing area is open when you travel.

The two hotels have different starting points: the Lichtenstern is on the Freud Promenade, the Weihrerhof on Wolfsgruben Lake. If you want to go from there to the earth pyramids or to Bolzano, check the route from your property.

Getting there

Travel by train to Bolzano, from the north via the Brenner Pass or from the south via Verona and Trento, then walk to the Renon cable car for Soprabolzano. For Hotel Lichtenstern, continue on the Renon railway toward Collalbo and get off at Lichtenstern, Stella. The hotel gives a 300-meter walk from there. For Weihrerhof on Lake Costalovara, the hotel offers a shuttle from Soprabolzano, with a taxi as an alternative. Only the actual shuttle pickup needs to be arranged with the hotel before arrival. The Lichtenstern and Weihrerhof directions describe the routes. Weihrerhof lists the RittenCard as an included benefit.
